Masters Thesis

Ethnocentrism, counseling and potential Black baccalaureate nurses

Scott, in her master's thesis on Negro role models in nursing, has suggested that recruitment of black students into nursing has been difficult because of the attitudes of the black students and the attitudes of white teachers, guidance counselors, and others who serve as advisors and role models to black students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes of counselors to see if this is a reason why there is difficulty in recruiting black students into nursing. There has been little research on counselors, their personal attitudes toward a specific ethnic group and a specific occupation such as nursing. This study examined the comprehensiveness of the counselor's knowledge of nursing.
