A comparison of milking efficiency of two types of milking inflations at various intervals

The general overuse of milking machine teat cups has been an enigma with most dairymen. No conducive information has been available upon which to base inflation usage other than manufacturers recommendations coupled with personal experiences. In addition, inflation pressure will vary because of the type of milking equipment used (ex: DeLaval, Surge, or Bou-Matic). Many dairymen have demonstrated that work is needed in this area to show at what point the inflation loses its optimal efficiency. The specific level of inflation-efficiency needs to be established using both the single shot and the double-shot pulsator. Considerable effort has been directed toward creating the best inflation to use; the narrow bore or a wide bore inflation have both been explored. A narrow bore liner is now well recommended over the wide bore inflation. the question is, hog long can the narrow bore inflation of various types be used to their fullest efficiency? Efficiency is generally evaluated by the number of cow-milkings that the inflation device optimally uses. This study was designed to statistically evaluate the narrow bore, ring-type stretch inflation (commonly known as the 01 inflation) as well as the narrow bore, molded one piece inflation (commonly known as the 01 inflation). The study described here with evaluates the liners within the device at various milking intervals. Also, they are to be compared one with the other. This will be accomplished with the use of a single-shot pulsator and repeated with the double-shot pulsator. Much of the milking equipment today is developed and tested in parts of the world where cow3 are not subject to as much stress as they are in California. Increased milk production per cow, as well as pronounced differences in weather conditions, demand much of the milking equipment used in California.
