Program development: an approach to consumer education for adults with limited resources

The purpose of this study was to develop a program in Consumer Education for the economically and culturally deprived adult homemaker with limited resources. To do this a curriculum guide was developed and tested in a consumer education program approximately fifteen weeks in length. Ten homemakers were selected to participate in this training program. The expectation was that after completing the training program, these homemakers would then be able to instruct other members of the community in various areas of consumer economics. As instruction progressed, the original curriculum guide proved to be ineffective; thus a revision was necessary. Expressed needs and wants of these homemakers were identified throughout instruction. Information relevant to the establishment and implementation of a consumer education program has been incorporated into the study along with the curriculum guide and the actual description of instruction.
