Serum biochemical parameters in cattle fed aflatoxin-contaminated cottonseed meal with and without ammoniation

This study was conducted to determine the change in serumbiochemical parameters that takes place subsequent to ingestion of aflatoxin-contaminated meal and of contaminated meal which was ammoniated before feeding to cattle. The researcher's interest in this problem was prompted by the fact that feedstuffs possessing aflatoxins are extensively used in his home country as food for both man and livestock, and research within this segment of life sciences would help him gain knowledge as to how hazards resulting from the ingestion of these toxins could be obviated. The research was initiated by the faculty from the Department of Animal Science, California State University, Fresno, in cooperation with Ranchers' Cotton Oil Company of Fresno and funded by local and national segments of the cottonseed industry.
