Mental health: attitudes of Mexican-Americans toward the services at the Fresno County Mental Health Clinic

This thesis examines the relationships of sex and generation of the Mexican-American and his use of the Fresno County Mental Health Clinic Services. By "generation" is meant length of residence in the United States; patients will be identified as first generation, second generation, and third generation. The first generation Mexican-American in the study is one who was born in Mexico and emigrated to the United States. The second generation Mexican-American is the first born in the United States to parents born in Mexico. The third generation Mexican-American is the offspring of the Mexican-American first born in the United States. Chapter I includes a review of literature relating to the subject of the Mexican-American's acculturation to the dominant, white society and the Mexican-American’s attitude toward health care; this chapter will also enumerate certain assumptions and expectations of this study.
