Duvall: a study of Dr. Evelyn M. Duvall's contributions to the understanding of adolescent development and the nature of the contemporary American youth culture

Evelyn Millis Duvall, Ph.D., has long been recognized as a powerful spokesman in the field of family relations. In this paper, it will be the desire of the writer to consider much of what she has written regarding the adolescent or teenage period of life. As Dr. Duvall has written extensively since the late 1930's, it would be impossible to obtain and study all books and articles for a thesis of this scope. Therefore, certain topics within the adolescent stage have been selected to be developed by the use of materials which were available. During the years when the writer taught at the junior high school level, the complexity of the teen years and the problems which young people must face became apparent, The writer washes to present to the reader Dr. Duvall's theories as to why adolescents behave as they do and her suggested, solutions to the problems with which teenagers must cope.
