The utilization and effectiveness of police helicopter patrol in 130 major cities in the United States

The purpose of this study was to determine (l) the percentage of police departments in the 130 United States cities with populations of over 100,000 that utilized helicopters in 1970, (2) the percentage of these police departments that utilized helicopters for routine police patrol, (3) if the use of helicopters for routine patrol had reduced crime, (4) how police departments were utilizing helicopters to combat crime, (5) if the use of helicopters had increased the effectiveness of the police department, and (6) if police helicopter pilots were trained police officers.
