Obesity and adolescence: an analysis of sugary beverage consumption and place of residence, and its effect on obesity

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects sugary drink consumption, place of residence, age, race/ethnicity, and gender had on obesity in adolescents aged 12-17 living in California. This study utilized data from the 2014 California Health Interview Survey. The survey had 1,052 adolescents in participation and a response rate of 37.2%. The data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance to test for significance among the variables sugary drink consumption, place of residence, gender, race/ethnicity, age, and body mass index.
