Industry location: an analysis of water and sewer service costs in the Fresno, California area

The purpose of this study is twofold. It is first to determine the extent to which water and sewerage facilities influence the selection of industrial sites in the Fresno area. The second purpose is to analyze water and sewer service costs in the Fresno area and. determine which city or district provides the lowest costs. Based on these costs, this study will determine the most appropriate location for three types of industrial plants—footloose, market-oriented, and materials-oriented. This study is part of a larger research study on industrial location in the Fresno area. In addition to this study, other areas included in the research project are: (a) industry location with reference to community relations, (b) influence of transportation facilities on industrial location, (c) industry location with reference to government services provided, (d) industry location with reference to marketing, and (e) the influence of financing on industrial location. The study is being conducted with funds provided by the State of California Division of Real Estate in a contract with the Bureau of Business Research of the School of Business at Fresno State College. It is hoped that the total study will indicate an optimum industrial site which takes into consideration all the areas under investigation.
